On January 31, 2010, Sahaja Yogis of Nizhny Novgorod, Russia, held a program in one of the children’s homes of the region for children of 5-10 yrs. It was one of the brightest and most vibrational programs we had ever conducted for children!
When we arrived at the children’s home, the volunteers of the “Children’s Project” (non-yogis supporting the orphans of our region) welcomed us very warmly (we had got acquainted with them on the Evening in the Indian Style “At Laxmi’s” which was held in December 2009). While the musicians were getting ready, our sisters started decorating the children’s hands in mehendi style. Before painting, we asked the kids to see which hand should be painted. “Close your eyes. Imagine that the very best and most beautiful is getting birth inside you and rising up the spine”. And almost immediately we heard the children’s exclamations, “Oh, I feel coolness, here, on this hand, and here!” While we were painting, we felt the kids’ problems. That is why we tried to turn our and their attention to the problem chakras – through talking about positive things: joy, beauty, love…
Since the very beginning the kids were interested in everything happening – since the moment we appeared in front of them in our costumes. After the sister leading the program said that she had been to India, the interest increased more, “Is India a beautiful country?” “As beautiful as ours!” – answered the sister. The hall was decorated with the pictures of India and Shri Mataji.
During the whole program, the speech of the sister-presenter was like music. The trust between the Sahaja Yogis and children was established almost immediately!
The concert started with the bhajan “Ganesha, Ganesha”. The dance devoted to Shri Ganesha followed (thanks to the sisters from Kovrov, another town, who had come specially to this program). Then the bhajans “Kitivarnavi” and “Namostute” were performed. After the first bhajans the atmosphere became soft and sweet. The games were invented right on the spot and immediately put to life. It was so pleasant to see the shining eyes of the teachers and the huge attentive eyes of the children. When the Three Great Mantras were accompanied by dancing movements, the vibrations were very strong and very tender.
A fairy-tale was also in the program, “Do you know that in India each dance movement means something?” The children treated this information so seriously that they carefully tried to repeat all the hastas which were shown by the sisters from Kovrov: a bee is flying, a flower is opening. The children liked it very much and we made the conclusion for ourselves that the movements of the Indian dance help the children’s Kundalinis rise greatly!
Self-realization was done according to the short protocol. Both the children and adults were doing it. To the accompaniment of the qawwali “Ali Mola” the children were dancing in a ring. We felt like children…
At the very end of the program, the volunteers and Sahaja Yogis gave the children some presents. Especially for this event, we had contacted “Nirmal System” (situated in Togliatti) and, by regular post, got several books with fairy-tales written and illustrated by Sahaja Yogis. We also treated the children to sweets.
Many volunteers also got self-realization when their hands were decorated in mehendi style. With some of them, we had an opportunity to talk about “deep” things. Sahaja Yogis were sharing their experience, “It is the Kundalini who is doing everything and we, with the help of the elements, try to balance our subtle body”.
When we were going to leave, the children asked:
- Will you come to us again?
- Yes, if want it very much.
- And how will you know?
- We will feel!
Jai Shri Mataji! You are the One who is doing everything!
